Making Music with Singing and Playing

  1. California Standards Addressed

    1. 1.2 Identify and describe basic elements of music (e.g. high/low, fast/slow, loud/soft, beat)

    2. 2.1 Use the singing voice to echo short melodic patterns

    3. 2.2 Sing age appropriate songs from memory awareness of beat, tempo, dynamics, and melodic direction

    4. 2.3 Play instruments and move or verbalize to demonstrate awareness of beat, tempo, dynamics, and melodic direction

    5. 3.2 Sing and play simple singing games from various cultures

  2. Essential Questions:

    1. How can I make music with music with my friends?

    2. How does music make me feel?

    3. How can I use my body to move with the music

    1. How can symbols help us know what music sounds like?

    2. What kind of symbols can we use to show the way music sounds?

    5. 4.2 Identify, talk about, sing or play music written for specific purposes (e.g. lullaby)

Expressing Ideas and Feelings Through Music

    3. Create accompaniments, using the voice or a variety of classroom instruments

    4. 4.1 Create movements that correspond to specific music.

    5. 5.1 Use music, together with dance, theatre and visual arts for storytelling
